Help us fight maternal mortality

Every year, more than 500,000 women die from pregnancy-related causes – that’s one every minute. If this continues at the current rate, another 4 million women will die by 2015. This figure is unacceptable.

Maternal mortality is almost always preventable – one tragedy we really can put a stop to. That's why CARE is working to change these alarming statistics.

In a remote region of Peru, CARE reduced maternal mortality by half in less than four years, while also empowering women to have a voice and to demand the healthcare and other services they need. In Bangladesh, we increased the amount of emergency obstetric care provided from 16 per cent to 40 per cent of those in need, over three years.
