Publish What You Pay

CARE International UK is a member of Publish What You Pay – a global movement aimed at helping citizens of resource-rich developing countries to hold their governments to account for the way they manage revenues from the oil, gas and mining industries.

Revenues from natural resources such as oil, gas and mining are an important source of income for governments of more than 50 developing countries, such as Angola, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Nigeria and Venezuela.

When money from these industries is properly managed, the income can help to fight poverty by increasing economic growth and development, rather than increasing corruption, conflict and social division.

PWYP is a coalition of more than 300 non-governmental organisations. Its ongoing campaign calls for the mandatory disclosure of the payments made by oil, gas and mining companies to all governments around the world for the extraction of natural resources.

The coalition also calls on resource-rich developing country governments to publish full details on revenues.

This is a necessary first step towards a more accountable system for the management of natural resource revenues.
