

The number of displaced people has now risen to over 136,000. CARE will be involved in providing for the immediate needs of the people affected by giving them shelter, food, water and other essential items such as jerry cans and blankets.
CARE International has started to help the thousands of people who have been made homeless as a result of the conflict. CARE has distrbuted food and non food items to over 12,000 people.
CARE hopes that the orders to end military operations in the region will restore the fragile peace. CARE has worked in Georgia since 1992, initially providing humanitarian assistance, and later working in the sectors of community development and small business development. Field operations and vehicle movements are limited, and CARE staff are restricting their travel.
