Tsunami: three years on
CARE is staying the distance, helping people recover.

CARE has worked with 600,000 survivors of the 2004 tsunami since the early days of the disaster and continues to work with communities across the entire region - in India, Indonesia, Somalia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Initially, we did emergency response work, saving lives and ensuring people had clean water to drink, food to eat and shelter. But three years on, we are now focusing on helping people to restore their livelihoods, to ensure they can earn a living and be better off than they were before.

We are also ensuring communities and individuals are prepared for any future emergencies by helping them to build cyclone shelters, safe houses and put together contingency plans.
